Fast Out the Blocks:
With the end of April in sight and the potential of lockdown being lifted sometime in May, you may be tempted to start making plans for life after the pandemic. While I’m sure many of you will be thinking about days out in the sunshine, flocking to our nation’s parks and beer gardens, there are plenty of practical things to think about too. If you are currently waiting for a new electric vehicle, or are considering making the change to electric, then it may be worth taking advantage of these few weeks.
With the exception of Tesla, almost all electric and low-emissions vehicle suppliers are experiencing a backlog in orders at the moment. Major suppliers such as Audi and Jaguar Land Rover have halted production while they wait on mines in Africa and factories in Asia returning to normal. As we have discussed in the past, many customers have been told that their delivery has been delayed by a few weeks, even months. We understand that the purchase of a new car is a big decision and that you may be inclined to order it in person. However, with the availability of virtual reality car tours, interactive car-design software and detailed specification information available online, it has never been easier to purchase your car remotely. We firmly believe that you will be just as informed buying your car online as you would be from a salesroom. That said, given the aforementioned delays, it may be time to get the order in so that your car will arrive soon after you emerge from isolation.
The next thing you can do is start to consider charging your electric vehicle. This involves a number of different considerations. Firstly, you could start to think about applying for grant funding for the installation. Grant applications are usually processed within 8 days but you will need to arrange an installer first. You may not be ready to install your charging point but, the good news is, grants can be applied for up to 4 months in advance. You could have your charging installer arranged, have grant funding approved and have picked your chargepoint model all in time for lockdown ending.
So where do we fit in?
Our business continues to operate remotely and all of our staff continue to work tirelessly for our customers. We can arrange a virtual consultation about chargepoint installation and answer any questions that you have. We currently have a waiting time of around 10 days from the approval of grant funding. Installation of chargepoints has also been deemed an essential service by the government so our subcontractors will not need to wait until the end of these restrictions to get your installation done. Moreover, all of our accessory products are still available for delivery and lead times have not been affected.
Finally, if you are considering switching to electric but not yet in a position to purchase your car or install your chargepoint, you can still be productive. There are a plethora of sources of information about the electric vehicle market available online, our blog being one of them. Do some reading and try to decide what you think will suit you.
