In October 2017, Jeff Bezos overtook BIll Gates to become the richest man in the world. Jeff Bezos is best known as the Founder and CEO of Amazon, a company which has grown to astronomical heights in recent years. Even though Amazon is still booming as a company, Bezos was snipped at the post for Richest man in the World by Elon Musk this January.
The reason behind this win for Elon Musk was a recent spike in Tesla share prices. Over the past year, Tesla’s share price has increased by over 700% according to the app Trading 212. This massively increased the worth of the company and in turn, Elon Musk’s overall net worth. The reason for this increase in share price seems to be the huge spike in demand for electric cars and further government announcements to end the sale of combustion engine vehicles by 2035.
The Tesla boss is only 49 and yet holds a staggering net worth of £136 billion which on Wednesday the 6th of January made him 1.5 billion dollars richer than Jeff Bezos. He also owns the company Space X which is an aerospace manufacturer that has the goal of reducing the cost of transportation to space.
Not only is Elon Musk an extremely successful businessman but he is also a Father. His seventh child made the headlines after the baby boy was given the bold name of X Æ A-12 Musk. The unique name was said to be inspired by the name of the mother’s album.
The majority of the public really love Elon Musk, whereas Jeff Bezos was not received as well. The reason for the public’s dislike of Jeff Bezos is assumed to be due to recent scandals of poorly treated Amazon Staff and the fact that the low prices and convenience of Amazon was meaning many small business were having no choice but to close.
After the announcement of Elon Musk being the richest man in the world was tweeted by Tesla, Elon Musk simply replied with “How Strange” and then “Well, back to work..”.
Moreover, Musk pinned a previous tweet which outlined his plans to use his money to solve “problems on Earth” and “help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars of ensure continuation of life”. He also reached out to his followers to ask them which charities he should donate his money to.
